Why Life Coaching?

For many young men, coaching is effective because it meets them where they are by providing structure, mentorship, and forward momentum without the stigma or intensity they may associate with therapy. This often leads to greater engagement, consistency, and measurable growth in areas like academics, responsibility, confidence, and decision-making. At the same time, Cornerstone maintains a firm ethical standard: life coaching is not a replacement for therapy. We intentionally assess for mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, or other clinical needs, and when therapy is necessary, we clearly communicate that to parents, make appropriate referrals to licensed professionals, and support the transition. This approach provides confidence that individuals receive the right level of support, focused on personal growth when appropriate and clinical care when it is truly needed.

Why I Do This Work

I began Cornerstone after years of working closely with young men and seeing a consistent gap in support. Many were not in crisis and did not need ongoing therapy, yet they were struggling with direction, motivation, confidence, and follow-through. What they needed was structure, mentorship, and someone invested in their growth outside of a purely clinical setting. Cornerstone exists to meet that need through intentional, one-on-one life coaching that is practical, relational, and forward-focused.

Experience with Young Men

I spent five years as a Young Life leader, working directly with high school and college-aged men in the context of mentorship, leadership, and personal development. That experience shaped my understanding of how young men engage best- through trust, consistency, challenge, and relationship. It also reinforced the importance of meeting young men where they are, while still holding clear expectations and standards.

Values and Boundaries

Cornerstone is built on clarity, accountability, integrity, and respect for the individual. Coaching is structured and goal-oriented, with an emphasis on responsibility, discipline, and long-term growth. At the same time, clear boundaries are essential. Life coaching is not therapy, and it is not positioned as a solution for every challenge. Maintaining that distinction is critical to doing this work responsibly.

Respect for Mental Health Professionals

I approach coaching with a strong awareness of clinical boundaries and the importance of appropriate care. Every individual is assessed for whether life coaching is the right fit, and when a higher level of care is needed, that need is communicated clearly and referrals to licensed mental health professionals are made. Cornerstone does not compete with therapy, it complements it. This model allows young men to benefit from the accessibility and relational nature of life coaching while ensuring mental health needs are addressed with the care and expertise they require.

The services and information provided by Cornerstone are supportive and educational in nature and do not replace medical care or mental health therapy, nor do they establish a medical provider–patient or therapist–client relationship.
